Sometimes when I think of the times past
I come to realise if it was not for you FRIENDS,
my life would have been cast
Into ever widening darkness of Evil...
But thanks to you all my views have changed,
My beliefs remain with me and am still sane
The sepulchre and solitude still part of me
I am happy to have days encore with thee.
Days spent with you are a delight
The happiness, joys and smiles we share
The sentiments about which we care
Is an added asset to our futures bright.
Therefore my friends, I pray to God
May our friendship continue always
Till the sun continues to shine, and
So please continue to mould my life...
The cute compliments still I store
In my memory and come to realise
Your presence is most important to me
May you feel the same for me too.
To have a friend is to know each other
To understand the likes 'n dislikes
To be (in love)/(frank to) with one another as well
And to have a (love)/(friendship) that is FOREVER.

Disclaimer - Another one of my brother's poems which I think best express my feelings and gratitude towards my friends, some of whom are reasons for the success I have achieved... For these friend (I don't name any specifically but those who comprise the list would know themselves when they read the lines) I would not think twice to go to whatever extremes necessary if they need my help... Thanks for being there and do give me a chance to do something for you...
A thing to note in this poem is that if one uses the two different bracket combinations in the last 2 lines this poem converts into a love poem... One of the tricks Smartha has used in other poems as well...

Nice poem. You don't need the slashes at the end. Love and Friendship are the same thing. When friendship crosses a certain degree of closeness, it changes into companionship.
The popular definition of Love which lays a lot of emphasis on Intimacy and Sentimentality sells better on TV and Cinema screens, hence the apparent distinction and confusion.
@ Nikunj
wish more people in this world thought like that... i would just add another dimension to this... there are people in your life who are acquaintances... when these acquaintances gain a certain degree of closeness then they fall into the category of friends... and when u develop a certain degree of closeness with certain friends you begin to love them and they become your best friends... the cliched 'love of life' concept is just that amongst these best friends one becomes the bestest (if I may use the word)...
In your language (i.e. mathematics/logic), 'love of life' is a one element subset of the set 'best friends' which in turn is a subset of 'friends'... friends are a subset of 'acquaintances' which is a small subset of all the people in the world...
